SFC Energy AG has announced the acquisition of significant assets from Ballard Power Systems Europe A/S, aimed at bolstering its hydrogen fuel cell technology and extending its market reach for power outputs less than 50 kW. This strategic move includes establishing a new subsidiary in Denmark to enhance access to Northern European markets. The acquisition covers key technologies, intellectual property, and a customer base from Ballard’s small stationary business, including proven hydrogen fuel cell systems with outputs of 1.7 kW and 5 kW, as well as maintenance contracts for approximately 400 sites in the region. A long-term supply agreement with Ballard Power Systems is also in place to ensure continuity for clients. This transaction aligns with SFC’s growth strategy, expected to deliver mid-single-digit million Euro revenues and positive EBITDA and EBIT starting in 2025. Notably, as of the announcement, SFC Energy’s stock price was 20.025 EUR, which slightly decreased by 0.17% shortly after the news was published.

SFC Energy AG is known for its innovative hydrogen fuel cell technologies, specifically focusing on energy solutions that are sustainable and efficient. The acquisition of assets from Ballard Power Systems Europe, a leader in fuel cell systems, represents a significant step for SFC in expanding its portfolio and strengthening its market position, particularly in the growing sector of hydrogen technology for stationary applications. The establishment of a subsidiary in Denmark is expected to facilitate better penetration into Northern European markets, which are increasingly focusing on clean energy solutions.

The acquisition of Ballard Power Systems’ assets not only strengthens SFC Energy’s technological capabilities and market presence in the hydrogen fuel cell sector but also aligns with its strategic growth plans. Through this deal, SFC is positioned to increase its revenue and operational efficiency in the coming years, further establishing itself as a leader in the industry.
