The RVR has launched the “LET’S EUROPE” campaign to engage young voters in the Ruhr area, promoting awareness and participation in the 2024 European elections through visible transport advertising and social media engagement. For the first time, 16- and 17-year-olds will be able to vote in these elections.

The Ruhr Regional Association (RVR) has initiated a regional campaign titled “LET’S EUROPE” in collaboration with cities and districts in the Ruhr area to encourage young people aged 16 to 30 to engage with Europe and participate in the upcoming European elections. A bus operated by HCR will display this campaign throughout the region, emphasizing the importance of Europe, particularly for younger generations. RVR Regional Director Garrelt Duin stated, “We live in the heart of Europe. Therefore, RVR, together with municipalities and districts, has launched the regional campaign ‘Let’s Europe.’ This aims to raise awareness among young people about the significance of Europe.” The campaign will be visible across the area, with 22 buses and four trams promoting a united Europe. Various media, including information screens and social media, will be used to reach a wider audience. The upcoming election on June 9, 2024, marks the tenth direct election of the European Parliament, where for the first time, 16- and 17-year-olds can vote, totaling 720 representatives, including 96 from Germany.

The “LET’S EUROPE” campaign by the RVR is part of a broader effort to engage young citizens in the democratic process, emphasizing their role in European integration. Initiatives like this are essential, especially as the European Union aims to connect with and include younger generations in discussions regarding Europe’s future. The campaign not only seeks to inform but also to inspire civic participation through creative storytelling and community engagement.

The RVR’s “LET’S EUROPE” campaign effectively targets young voters by utilizing local transport as a medium for outreach. By integrating various communication channels, the initiative aims to foster interest in the European elections, highlighting the importance of unity and participation among younger individuals. This effort lays the groundwork for increased civic involvement in democratic processes at the European level.
